Kali Kitzul was attending the event with her best friend Julee Gingera. Kitzul said her favourite thing about country music is the artists’ personalities.

“I’ve met a couple of [artists] and they’re so friendly and nice, compared to when you hear about different artists that aren’t and I feel like these people are down to earth,” Kitzul said.

Gingera admits the genre has grown on her.

“I used to hate country music,” Gingera said. “One day I woke up and I was like ‘I love this’ and I’ve been listening to it ever since.”

The CCMA award show takes place Sunday at SaskTel Centre.
