Canucks ink Bo Horvat to six-year contract extension

The Vancouver Canucks have locked up a big part of their future to a long-term contract.

The club announced they have signed centre Bo Horvat to a six-year contract extension worth $33-million, or an annual average value of $5.5 million.

Horvat, who led the team in goals (20) and points (52) last season, was a restricted free agent heading all the way into training camp.

In a team release, Canucks general manager Jim Benning says the club is happy to have the 22-year-old under contract for the long haul.

“Bo has quickly become a foundational player on our team and we’re thrilled for him to be a part of what we’re building here long term,” said Benning. “His commitment and work ethic have helped his game improve each season. He’s already a leader on our team and

Horvat said it was a great feeling to be able to continue his career in Vancouver for six more seasons.

“Since being drafted by the Canucks, I have been welcomed by fans with open arms and I’m incredibly proud and fortunate to call this city and province home. I couldn’t be more excited to help this team win,” said Horvat in a statement.

Among his other highlights, Horvat represented the Canucks in his first career NHL All-Star Game last season.
