Province to spruce up Brighton tennis courts

Ontario is investing in a set of tennis courts in Brighton as part of its 150th-anniversary celebration.

Lou Rinaldi, MPP for Northumberland-Quinte West, announced Wednesday that Brighton will be receiving $25,000 through the Ontario150 Community Capital Program to repair the public, outdoor tennis courts and purchase new LED lighting for the courts.

“Grants, like the one we’ve announced today for tennis court upgrades, provides our communities with excellent fitness opportunities for all. When community infrastructure is improved, everyone benefits,” Rinaldi said. “Our government has made a strong commitment to upgrading public infrastructure and we continue to realize its importance particularly in small communities across Ontario.”

The municipality of Brighton is pleased to receive the funding, said Brighton Mayor Mark Walas.

The Ontario150 Community Capital Program will help not-for-profit organizations, municipalities, and Indigenous communities renovate, repair and retrofit existing community and cultural infrastructure. This support will be used to increase accessibility, improve safety and maximize community use of public spaces.

The Ontario150 Community Capital Program is administered by the government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation.
