The Victoria branch of the BC SPCA has found itself caring for 56 cats, and most of them are not in good shape.
The cats were surrendered by a Victoria-area couple after they were kept in cramped conditions, a spokesperson said.

The felines were covered in urine and feces, and suffering from eye and ear infections, respiratory problems, along with other ailments.
Many were also dehydrated and had untreated medical conditions.

Many of the cats are quite fearful of humans right now, but will be adopted out once they heal.
The investigation into their lack of care continues.
The shelter is looking for any assistance people can give.
