STC depots, land up for sale

The Saskatchewan government has started the process to sell off depots and land belonging to the Saskatchewan Transportation Company (STC).

Properties are for sale in Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert and Moose Jaw.

Interested buyers have until Oct. 4 to submit proposals to the Ministry of Central Services, which is handling the sale.

The sale also includes 45 coach buses, a variety of trucks and vans, and miscellaneous equipment including office furniture.

The sell-off needs to be complete by March 2018.

The government announce in its 2017-18 budget that it was shutting down the provincial bus service at the end of May, cutting 224 jobs.

Officials said it will save the government $85 million over the next five years.

STC had operated in the province for 70 years.
