Mounties across B.C. were answering dozens of calls Monday night, all because of one thing in particular at approximately 10:15 p.m.

“Folks were calling in from Kamloops to Cranbrook and everywhere in between talking about a bright light in the sky crashing in the mountains,” RCMP said.

RCMP Staff Sergeant Troy Gross said it’s a little out of the ordinary for so many people across such a large area to call about a single thing.

“Of course we have no idea what it is, but I’m assuming it’s probably a meteor shower so… it’s obviously bright enough for people all over to see it,” he said.

People on social media told CKNW they saw the fireball, complete with a loud boom, from Calgary, to Nelson, the Okanagan, and the Comox Valley.

Some said the sonic boom shook their homes like an earthquake.

Sgt. Gross said he hopes those who can determine what it is can figure out exactly what happened, and put everybody’s curiosity to rest.
