Saskatoon fire crews were able to contain a fire from damaging the other half of a duplex on Saturday evening.

When crews first arrived on scene, they discovered smoke and flames coming from the front basement window of one-half of a duplex.

Fire crews were able to control the flames and search the home for occupants. No one was home at the time.

Three engines, one ladder company and a rescue unit were called to the scene.

Fire crews also examined the other half of the structure and found that the fire had not spread. The family of the second occupancy had safely evacuated on their own.

Fire crews used fans to ventilate some very light smoke that had entered their home and completed a walk-through to verify carbon monoxide levels were at zero per cent before they allowed the family to re-enter.

The owner of the home and all tenants have been notified.
