CALGARY- Parks Canada has successfully put two rescue teams on the Wapta Traverse in Yoho National Park, in hopes of rescuing a missing B.C. skier.
Mark Taylor, the general manager of Parks for the city of Abbotsford, has been missing since last Tuesday after falling down a crevasse.
Visibility in the area has been poor, meaning rescue crews haven’t been able to access the area. On Tuesday morning there were low lying clouds, once again impeding a helicopter from landing.
Fortunately, crews have found a way around that.
“We’re getting a ground team organized and then hopefully they can ski up there,” says Brad White from Parks Canada. “Unfortunately we wanted to bring a lot of our heavy technical equipment right to the spot.”
On Tuesday afternoon, two rescue teams successfully made it to the Wapta Traverse, with plans to safely enter the crevasse. It is not known if Taylor is still alive.
Another update is expected later on Tuesday.
