A man from Mission B.C. is being treated in hospital after an intense rescue off Highway 1 east of Salmon Arm.
Police say the man was driving a tractor trailer when he was involved in a single-vehicle crash west of Bernie Road just before 3 a.m. Wednesday.
Police say the semi left the road and went through a number of trees before coming to rest down a 15 foot embankment.
The driver of the tractor trailer was pinned in the vehicle and had to be cut from the wreckage.
The rescue involved Shuswap Search and Rescue, RCMP and ambulance paramedics.
Police say extracting the driver was a complex operation due to overhanging trees as well as the semi’s instability.
A heavy wrecker had to be brought in to stabilize the semi to prevent it from rolling further and endangering the rescuers as well as the trapped driver.
The extent of the driver’s injuries or why he left the road are unknown.
