Saskatoon Public Schools board chair Ray Morrison said the new schools will help alleviate cramming at other schools in the division have experienced for the past several years.

“There are students coming to this school from 15 of our other schools,” Morrison said.

“(Those schools) will have an opportunity to reinvent themselves now that they will have some classroom space back.”

“The impact will ripple through the whole school division.”

The new schools combine classroom space with common areas for both students and staff.

They include indoor and outdoor learning spaces, along with motion sensor LED lights.

Morrison said the schools were designed to be open to the community, students and staff.

“Just the openness, the airiness, the brightness, the sunlight, the great gym spaces, the stairwells, the great learning spaces that are here for every age group and every class are phenomenal pieces,” Morrison said.

Under the joint-use schools program, 18 new schools are set to open this year in Saskatchewan.
