Head-on crash in Hamilton leaves one dead and another in hospital

The investigation is continuing into the cause of a deadly crash on Upper James Street in Hamilton.

Hamilton police say a car collided head-on with a pickup truck shortly before midnight between Homestead Drive and Airport Road.

A man from Welland driving the car was killed, while a man from Hannon who had been driving the pickup is in hospital with serious injuries, but he is expected to survive.

Police say no names will be released until the families have been notified.

Investigators aren’t sure why it happened but they’ve ruled out impaired driving.

They’re asking any witnesses to give them a call.

Upper James was closed between Homestead Drive and Airport road through the night and the morning rush hour while the investigation and clean up continued, however it was since re-opened.

This collision marks the 13th motor vehicle fatality for 2017 for the city of Hamilton.
