Tony Caterina has been re-elected in a tight race in Ward 7, according to unofficial results released Monday night.
With all polls reporting Monday night, unofficial results show Caterina won with 34.1 per cent of the vote. Kris Andreychuk came in second with 32.7 per cent of the vote.
Caterina has represented Ward 7 in northeast Edmonton for 10 years. He is seeking re-election in the ward, alongside four others vying for the spot on council.
Here’s a quick look at the candidates running in Ward 7.
Kris Andreychuk
Kris Andreychuk has worked for the City of Edmonton for five years, supervising city-wide crime prevention teams and providing research on a number of crime and safety-related issues. He is focused on encouraging small business development, reducing crime and building relationships with the people of Ward 7.

Tony Caterina
Tony Caterina was first elected to council in 2007. In the 2015 provincial election, he ran for the Alberta Progressive Conservatives in the Edmonton-Beverly-Clareview riding, but was beat out by NDP MLA Deron Bilous. Caterina said he would be honoured to continue being the voice of Ward 7 on council.

Andrzej Gudanowski
Andrzej Gudanowski said he wants to focus on defending Edmonton’s citizens against high tax increases, stopping poverty and homelessness in the ward and opening training centres for various services.

Liz John West
Liz John West said she has spent the last 30 years of her life devoted to anti-poverty work, as well as addressing homelessness and violence against women. She wants to end homelessness, create a community where businesses thrive and ensure Ward 7 is at the table on all discussions surrounding the future of Northlands.

Matthew Kleywegt
Matthew Kleywegt works as a graduation coach with Edmonton Public Schools. He said the city has set a number of “ambitious and worthwhile” goals since 2008, but is “not on track to accomplish them.” He said the city’s leadership has been “cowed by developers” and he wants to help change that.

Mimi Williams
Mimi Williams is self-employed and works as a freelance journalist and consultant. Her priorities include pedestrian and cyclist safety, dealing with derelict properties and increasing the stock of affordable housing in Edmonton.

In total, 13 people are running for mayor and there are 70 candidates for city council. Twenty people are running to become Edmonton Catholic School Board trustees, while 28 people are running to become Edmonton Public School Board trustees (including one acclamation).
Election day is Monday, Oct. 16.
