Edmonton election 2017: Andrew Knack re-elected in Ward 1

According to unofficial election results, Andrew Knack will hold on to his seat as councillor in Ward 1.

Knack has been the councillor in Ward 1 since 2013. Prior to that, Linda Sloan represented the northwest Edmonton ward for nine years.

Knack is running against three other people in Ward 1.

Reuben Avellana

Reuben Avellana is a businessman who studied technical writing and game design. His platform includes holding the line on wasteful spending, freezing taxes and fee increases and sensible school traffic solutions.

Andrew Knack

Andrew Knack has represented Ward 1 in northwest Edmonton since the last municipal election in 2013. He sits on two city committees and is the council representative for Edmonton NextGen and the City of Edmonton Youth Council.

Dave Olivier

Dave Olivier runs his own transportation business, which focuses on individuals with medical and behavioural issues. He said his biggest concern in Ward 1 is how the city is spending tax dollars. His other priorities include infrastructure, infill and community safety.

In total, 13 people are running for mayor and there are 70 candidates for city council. Twenty people are running to become Edmonton Catholic School Board trustees, while 28 people are running to become Edmonton Public School Board trustees (including one acclamation).

Election day is Monday, Oct. 16.
