Authorities are investigating after a disturbing video was posted online appearing to show a dog being abused on a TTC subway train.
The video depicts a woman grabbing at the dog, pulling it and biting it, while repeatedly yelling at it to “stop it.”
A TTC spokesperson told Global News the emergency alarm was activated and security was called for a woman allegedly abusing a dog on board a train on Line 2 around 4:20 p.m. Friday.
Officers from the Toronto police 53 division, as well as TTC special constables, attended the scene and escorted the woman off the train.
The TTC said the behaviour depicted in the video is “awful,” and they “feel for the passengers on board the train who had to witness it.”
Const. Allyson Douglas-Cooke told Global News they spoke to multiple witnesses as well as the woman in question. Based on the information they received, police released the woman with a warning.
Douglas-Cooke said the matter has now been turned over to the OSPCA for further investigation.
Alison Cross, spokesperson for the OSPCA, told Global News they are aware of the situation and are investigating it accordingly, but that it is “too early to speak to anything.”
“Any concerns for the welfare of an animal, we encourage people to call 310-SPCA or your local police immediately,” said Cross.
