When President Donald Trump feels down about the raft of challenges facing him, from the investigation into Russian election meddling to the struggle to repeal Obamacare, he can at least thank his stars that he doesn’t have to worry about battling a phalanx of flying sharks.

But it’s a problem he came very close to grappling, albeit in a fictional setting, according to Hollywood Reporter, which revealed Trump was asked to play the role of president in Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, the third installment of the sci-fi horror comedy movie series Sharknado, released in 2015.

Trump gleefully accepted the offer but then failed to follow up because he was considering running for the real-life presidency, prompting Sharknado’s producers to turn to billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban instead.

The casting of Cuban reportedly sent Trump into a frenzy, with his lawyer threatening to “shut the entire show down.” The lawyer in question was Michael Cohen, currently under investigation by the FBI in connection with the Russia investigation, Hollywood Reporter points out.

Incidentally, Cuban initially threw his support behind Trump’s campaign before souring on his politics and eventually becoming embroiled in a Twitter spat with the 45th president of the United States.

However, it turns out Trump was a backup himself — the producers’ first choice to play the commander-in-chief in the battle against shark-infused tornadoes was none other than former Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
