For the first time since June, a Calgary homeless shelter is opening its overflow emergency family shelter at Knox United Church.
The group said at least 18 children and their parents will sleep on cots in the overflow area Aug. 1, a situation that “underscores the need for more supported housing for families in Calgary.”

“Inn from the Cold is also asking for community support as donations of size 5 and 6 diapers,” the group said in a statement on Tuesday. “Other baby supplies and new towels are needed.”
The organization operates Journey House, a supported housing program for single mothers and their children that’s made up of nine units.
A second building, which will have 10 larger units for families along with a family resource centre, has also been bought by Inn from the Cold. It’s set to open in fall 2017.
