Halifax Fire crews battled a fire at a townhouse complex in the Clayton Park area on Monday evening.
Division commander Corey Beals said several crews had been called to the blaze shortly at 6:22 p.m to a report of fire on the balcony in the backyard at 161 Parkland Dr.
“When crews arrived we were faced with significant fire on the backside of the condominium structure,” Beals said in a phone interview.
He said the fire had extended from the back deck through the roof and subsequently they lost the roofs of three of the four units in the complex. He said the fourth unit also received damage, but would not be seen from the exterior.
Flames were still coming from the roof as firefighters battled the flames from above.
Beals said residents were home when the fire broke out, but everyone was able to evacuate. He said no fire-related injuries were reported by residents or firefighters.
The investigation unit has been requested but a cause is not yet known. Halifax Fire is waiting until they can assemble the investigation.
About five fire trucks and 24 firefighters were on scene attending to the fire.
