A 25-year-old man has been arrested and charged in a homicide that occurred in Vancouver in 2011.
On July 24, 2011, Harpreet “Hapi” Sandhu was gunned down on Arlington Street and Whitehorn Court. He was by himself, driving his silver Nissan Pathfinder when he got into a verbal confrontation with a group of youths nearby. Police said at the time heated words were exchanged and Sandhu left the area. However, he returned a short time later with two friends and police said things escalated. Sandhu was shot in the back as he attempted to run to his vehicle.

He was rushed to hospital but died of his injuries a short time later.
Now, almost six years later, Heval Hishyar Tilli of Vancouver has been charged with second-degree murder.
Detectives from the Vancouver police homicide unit stated they would not rest until Sandhu’s killer was brought to justice, despite the fact that they had little co-operation from witnesses.
“We are aware that there are other witnesses to this murder that have been afraid to come forward or to co-operate with the police investigation,” said Const. Jason Doucette in a release. “Now that charges have been laid, we are again appealing to those people to have the courage to speak up and clear their conscience.”
This investigation is now before the courts.
Anyone with information about this homicide is asked to call detectives at 604-717-2500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
