Drowning in Penticton channel

Interview with witness who tried to save boater. – Jun 28, 2017

One man is dead following an accident on the Penticton River Channel.

The incident happened Wednesday afternoon when witnesses say four males attempted to navigate the channel on two inflatables tied together.

RCMP say the floats became wedged against the pillar of the Green Mountain Road overpass.

They say the victim had a rope tied around his waist that he became tangled up in.

Rescue officials managed to get the man out of the water and performed CPR on him before he was rushed to Penticton hospital where he was pronounced dead.

RCMP say the victim was a 20 year-old male, not from Penticton.

None of the males were wearing life jackets.
