Edmonton Public Schools is investigating after several students suffered injuries while using an inflatable obstacle course at Victoria School for the Arts on Tuesday morning.
Spokesperson Carrie Rosa said most of the students had bumps and bruises but one child remains in the hospital at this time.
“The school was having a fun day outside,” said Rosa, “and several children were injured while playing on that inflatable.”
An internal review has now been launched, but a timeline for that review has not been determined.
EPSB does not allow bouncy castles on its properties, but said other inflatables are permitted.
“We do have guidelines that schools should follow when they bring inflatables into the field and into the schools. So we’ll look into whether all those guidelines were met.”
One parent told Global News that several students suffered minor injuries when the obstacle course flipped at about 11 a.m.
Powerful wind gusts were blowing through parts of Edmonton Tuesday morning but the EPSB did not say whether the incident was related to the weather.
A letter was sent home with students instructing parents with concerns to contact the school principal.
