Twenty-four-year-old D’haquille Williams certainly impressed at Edmonton Eskimos training camp, catching two touchdown passes in two pre-season games.

He caught the attention of Eskimos quarterback from day one.

“Early in camp, I felt like he had a lot of potential,” Mike Reilly said. “I was excited to see him but I was curious to see how he was gonna handle being a professional. This is his first time and he’s young. But he handled everything very well, he’s very coachable.”

He’s done a lot of growing up since 2015 because, as he says, he had to. The former Auburn Tigers receiver was dismissed from the team in 2015 for an altercation with a teammate outside of a bar. He wasn’t drafted after that and just last season, after signing a three-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams, he was waived by the team in September in final cuts to the roster.

“I was down and out but now that I’m getting my feet back under me it feels great to be back out here,” Williams said.

“I’m bettering myself off the field. I know what I can do on the field. Just humbling myself and work on being a great person and building my character back up.”
