The provincial agency says while this will not affect water quality, the chemical may be an irritant for people with sensitivities to potassium.

It says those who are affected should find an alternate source of water until the system is flushed.

Gail Sloan, the town’s administrator, says the overfeed may also result in the discolouration of clothes as they’re being washed.

Sloan expected water lines to be cleared later in the day.
