NIVERVILLE, Man. — When 20-year old Kennedy Koop saw the photos of the car she was in when it was rear-ended, she couldn’t believe she survived.
Koop was making a delivery for Piston Ring driving from Niverville to Ile de Chenes on Highway 59 when she stopped for a car in front of her that was waiting to turn left. Suddenly she was hit from behind by a concrete pumper truck.

“She looks at the picture of the car and she can’t believe she was in there,” said Kennedy’s mother Margot Koop from the Health Sciences Centre.
“She goes, ‘it’s a miracle I’m alive’.”
Koop had just finished university in B.C and returned home to Niverville to work for her dad at Piston Ring delivering parts.

On Thursday morning at 10 a.m. she was on her way to Ile des Chenes when she was hit.
Her dad Gerry Koop got the call right away and rushed to the scene just two kilometers north of Niverville.
“I’m sure when my husband came upon the scene his heart probably feel down to his toes,” Margot said.
To his amazement his daughter was ok.
“He was actually with her on the scene so we knew she was outwardly ok,” Margot said. “She wasn’t really aware of what she was saying because she doesn’t remember the accident at all.”
Kennedy was confused but breathing. No broken bones, no serious head injuries only cuts from glass and scrapes on her back. She required 12 stitches and eight staples on her head from glass cuts.
“I can’t believe it,” said Margot. “Truly someone was watching out for her.”
RCMP are still investigating but say distracted driving is the cause and charges are pending against the 19-year old driver of the pumper truck.
