A system moving into Alberta Tuesday night has prompted Environment Canada to extend a number of weather warnings along the Rocky Mountains and through the foothills.
The warning, issued Tuesday afternoon, said precipitation will begin in the evening and change to snow overnight Wednesday in certain areas, including the Kananaskis region and the Canmore area.

Models suggest this system could bring up to 50 milimetres of rain to the Waterton Lakes National Park, Pincher Creek and Crowsnest Pass regions, with 10 to 20 centimetres of snow possible in higher elevations.
“A weather system moving through the northwestern United States is forecast to bring significant precipitation to portions of the Rockies and foothills. Precipitation will start as rain tonight and change to snow by Wednesday morning. Snowfall amounts will vary based on elevation with higher locations receiving more significant snowfall.”
Warnings are issued when significant snowfall is expected.
As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, there were no weather warnings issued for the Calgary area.
