Dollard-des-Ormeaux (DDO) is trying to push Hydro-Quebec to be more transparent when it comes to its transmission line project.
The West Island city wants more details on how much it would cost to bury the electric lines.

Hydro-Quebec is planning to build a 315 kilovolt (kV) line that would tower above the already existing network.
The public utility company argues burying the line would cost millions of dollars.

DDO mayor Edward Janiszewski argues Hydro-Quebec hasn’t been forthcoming with the information.
“They haven’t been honest,” he told Global News.

“We want to have a better argument to present to the government that the original costs they sent to us are not necessarily accurate and that they’re done less expensively elsewhere.”

On the other hand, Hydro-Quebec insists it has been working with the city and residents every step of the way.
The Quebec government has already approved the company’s plan to build the above-ground transmission line.

If the network was to be installed underground, Hydro-Quebec says DDO would have to share the cost – and the city doesn’t want to do that.
The project is estimated at $100 million.
