Work is scheduled to begin today on the replacement for Massey Tunnel; a new bridge over the Fraser River. But not everyone is happy about it.
The first shovels are expected to go in the ground this morning and protesters were on scene to have their say.
The protesters gathered around the crew, using megaphones to make their voices heard.
The police were also called in during the announcement just to make sure no one got out of hand.
The$3.5 billion 10-lane project will have one transit/HOV lane and four lanes for general traffic in each direction.

“This will be the largest bridge ever built in B.C. When completed, it will address what is now the worst traffic bottleneck in the province and bring travel time reliability to one of our most important transportation corridors, serving national, provincial and regional economies,” said Transportation and Infrastructure Minister, Todd Stone in December, 2016.
The province estimates the average commuter will save about 25 to 35 minutes a day using this new toll bridge.
