Stephen Colbert brought up comments made by Louis C.K. in a March 2016 email for fans that compared U.S. President Donald Trump to Hitler, on Tuesday’s Late Show.

“Please stop it with voting for Trump. It was funny for a little while. But the guy is Hitler,” C.K. wrote to fans on his email list.

When Colbert reminded him of his comments, C.K. downplayed the remark.

“I don’t take it back; I regret it. There’s a difference,” C.K. told Colbert.

The Late Show host asked C.K. how his perception of Trump has changed.

“Now, I guess he’s not as profound as I thought he was. I thought he was some new kind of evil. But he’s just a lying sack of sh*t,” the comedian explained.

He went on to explain the difference in his mind between certain people who tell lies. “Sometimes people lie. ‘That guy lied, they found out he lied.’ And then there’s somebody who lies once in a while, can’t quite stay inside the boundaries of truth, right? Somebody who lies sometimes.”

“Then you have a liar, who’s somebody who has a problem, they can’t help it, they lie a lot. And then you have a lying sack of sh*t… They like it, he likes it… It’s insane, he’s just a gross, crook, dirty, lying sack of sh*t,” C.K. said of Trump.

The pair pointed out a Trump voter in the audience and C.K. joked that he was the “victim” of Trump’s lies.

“He lied to him. He didn’t lie to me. Everybody else was like, ‘no, that’s not true.’ But that guy bought it. So he’s the victim of the lying,” C.K. joked.

Colbert added that it’s “refreshing” to see a person who lies so much, “I don’t know what colour his hair is. I don’t know what colour his skin is. I don’t know how much money he has.”

“Don’t you want God to show up and say ‘I was just kidding’ about everything? I just wish that he would,” C.K. said about the current political situation in the U.S.

During Monday’s episode of the Late Show, Colbert likened Trump to the Tranformers villain named Megatron, while discussing Trump’s ties to Russia.

Colbert referenced new reports that Russians hired 1,000 people to produce anti-Hillary Clinton fake news stories in an effort to sway the 2016 U.S. presidential election in Trump’s favour.

“When I say fake news, this is real fake news,” Colbert said. “Not fake fake news. That is real news that Donald Trump just doesn’t like. This is made-up stuff. There’s a difference.”

“Because if enough people say something is popular, I might trust that it’s good,” Colbert said. “It’s like how if one person tells me how Transformers is a good movie. I might not see it. But if everyone on Facebook is raving about it, I’ll go. And by the time I realize I was lied to, Megatron is president.”
