Former U.S. president Bill Clinton appeared via video at the 2017 Juno Awards Sunday night to introduce Canadian songstress Sarah McLachlan.
Clinton said McLachlan’s music and career have been a “gift to the world and a gift to me.”
He continued: “This is your night, very well deserved.”

The Canadian singer, who was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, told the audience that “we’re living in scary times and I know it’s naive to suggest all we need is love” during her speech.
She went on to say that she was thankful to be born in a “country where the rights of girls and women are respected. Where people of all ethnicity, gender and sexual identities can stand together as one … We Canadians are far from perfect, but we have a lot to offer to the rest of the world.”

She noted that the world was capable of creating “great beauty and violence,” and that “we need to remember to hold onto our light, our goodness, and strive to choose integrity and love over division and hatred.”
McLaclan performed World on Fire at this year’s Juno Awards. Other performances included Dallas Smith, Shawn Mendes, July Talk, A Tribe Called Red, The Stumbellas, Ruth B, Arkells, Alessia Cara, Billy Talent and Bryan Adams.
