A Saskatoon company has been fined after a worker had his arm amputated in a workplace accident on Canada Day 2015.

B.N. Steel & Metal was charged for violating Saskatchewan occupational health and safety regulations after the worker’s arm became entangled in a metal shredder.

The company pleaded guilty on Thursday for failing to provide an effective safeguard where a worker may contact a dangerous moving part of a machine.

It was fined $43,000 in Saskatoon provincial court plus a surcharge of $17,200.

Two other charges were stayed in court.
