The Power Rangers from your youth are back, and don’t worry, they haven’t changed that much.

The upcoming movie, Power Rangers (out in Canadian theatres on Friday), is a definite throwback to the original TV show, Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, which aired from 1993 until 1999. While the subject matter is different, it’s comforting to know that some things are the same, from the slightly updated skin-tight outfits to the underlying cheese of the franchise’s humour.

And this new iteration has even set a world record: according to one of the cast members, a wire stunt they did while filming actually broke an existing record for the longest wire jump. (This could not be independently verified by Global News.)

Global News caught up with three of the five Rangers — Dacre Montgomery (Jason/Red Ranger), Naomi Scott (Kimberly/Pink Ranger) and Chinese-Canadian actor Ludi Lin (Zack/Black Ranger) — to discuss the new movie and see how much has changed since the TV show’s final bow. It turns out we’re not the only ones who remember rushing home after school to catch the latest Power Rangers.
