This isn’t the first time the king’s travel habits have made headlines. A trip in 2015 by King Salman to France prompted a petition signed by 150,000 people in protest over the closure of a public beach during the king’s three-week stay.

For his stay, the king had an elevator temporarily installed so he could access the beach from his private villa.

The king and about half of his 1,000 person entourage ended up leaving early, according to a Reuters report.
