Preliminary hearing underway into shooting death nine years ago

SASKATOON – A preliminary hearing is underway in Saskatoon for three men into the shooting death of 34-year-old Isho Hana nine years ago.

Hana, a father of two, was gunned down in the middle of the 2100-block of Preston Ave. South in April 2004 in what investigators called a contract killing in a drug turf war.

Kenneth Tingle and Neil Yakimchuk were arrested at the Calgary remand centre in December 2011 and charged with first degree murder.

They were being held at the time on first-degree murder charges in the 2008 death of a Calgary man.

Police say information in that investigation led to the charges in the Hana case.

Two other men, Jonathan Dombowsky and Long Nam Luu, have also been charged with first-degree murder in Hana’s death.

The hearing for Dombowsky, Luu and Tingle started today.

A provincial court judge has set aside three weeks to determine if there is enough evidence to proceed to trial.

A separate preliminary hearing for Yakimchuk starts on Wednesday.
