Missing wallaby found safe and sound in Langley

UPDATE: Langley RCMP confirmed Saturday that the wallaby has been found.

A wallaby – a smaller version of a kangaroo – went missing in Langley on Thursday. It was found Saturday morning at a home near 125th St. and 56th Ave and captured with a fishing net.

“Now I know that you actually catch a wallaby using a fishing net,” Sgt. Bill Beals with the Langley RCMP told CKNW.

“We got a phone call this morning just before 8 a.m. A person woke up and reported a ‘kangaroo’ in their back yard. They actually weren’t aware that we had posted a missing wallaby two days earlier. So I guess they woke up a little surprised.”

Authorities at first weren’t sure how to capture the wallaby, but the animal’s owners arrived with a large fishing net.

“They put it over top of it, and jumped on top,” Beals said.

The wallaby was unharmed and was carried away in a dog carrier, according to CKNW.

The exotic macropod escaped its enclosure inside a home on Thursday, moving the RCMP to put out a public warning for residents to be on the lookout for a kangaroo-like animal.
