MONCTON, N.B. – Staff at the Magnetic Hill Zoo in Moncton say they had to put down an elderly female jaguar Tuesday after the animal became seriously ill.
Morena was 21 years old, which is twice the average lifespan of a jaguar in the wild.

The jaguar first came to the zoo when she was just a cub in late 1992.
Bruce Dougan, the zoo’s general manager, says Morena lived a long and healthy life at the zoo.
He says a veterinarian was brought in earlier this week to provide medication when it was clear Morena’s condition was worsening.
Dougan says Morena’s brother Azul remains in good health.
