CALGARY- With just one day to go until the big day, hundreds of volunteers hit Calgary’s streets to spread the spirit of the season.

365 families will receive the ‘Magic of Christmas’ this year, made possible by people who filled transit buses on Christmas Eve to deliver holiday cheer to those in need.

Mark, Sheri and their five children are some happy recipients.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“There wasn’t going to be Christmas if it weren’t for you guys, thing were really tough work wise,” says Mark. Both he and Sheri lost their jobs in the past few months, making the holidays an afterthought.

“Christmas is all for the kids…and them being happy and getting a few things,” says a grateful Sheri. “When you’re in a tough spot in life, things like this really help.”

Jim Brown has been volunteering for the cause for over a decade, and says stuffing a bus with gifts is an incredibly gift for him as well.

“When you leave the home and everybody gets a hug, and mom hugs Santa and whispers in his ear ‘Santa, you’ve just saved our Christmas,’ it’s in-describable.”

More than 500 volunteers donate their time to deliver the ‘Magic of Christmas’ every year.
