CALGARY- Four Alberta schools are closed today, due to potential threats.
Students at Holy Spirit Catholic School in Devon were sent home with a letter Thursday afternoon, stating it had come to the school board’s attention “that a former student of Holy Spirit Catholic School issued a threat on Facebook.”
RCMP investigated and say the threat does not cause any risk to the public’s safety, but the school remained closed on Friday.
Two schools in Rocky Mountain House were also shut down due to potential threats. The RCMP have not identified their exact nature or verified their credibility, but officials felt it was serious to warrant the cancellation of classes due to the recent shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
The affected schools are West Central High School and St. Dominic Catholic High School, displacing 800 students . Both will reopen for classes on January 7.
Crescent Heights High School in Medicine Hat was also closed for the same reason.
