Husband charged with counselling to commit murder

A mysterious death in Southeast British Columbia has taken another strange turn.

A man accused of murdering his wife is now also charged with trying to have killed witnesses expected to testify at his trial .

Peter Ernest Edward Beckett is charged with counseling to commit murder.

Police say last summer they received information Beckett was trying to influence the outcome of his trial.

An investigation involving the R.C.M.P. and B.C. Corrections resulted in the charge.

None of the witnesses was harmed.

The case all stared in August of 2010 when Beckett’s wife died in what was originally painted as a tragic fishing accident on Upper Arrow Lake, south of Revelstoke.

It was believed Laura Letts-Beckett drowned after she fell from a small Zodiac.

She couldn’t swim and was not wearing a life jacket.

Nearly a year later Peter Beckett was charged with first degree murder.

The Beckett’s were from Northern Alberta where Mrs. Beckett was a respected teacher and Mr. Beckett was a school bus driver.

The case gained attention in New Zealand where Mr. Beckett was a former city councillor.
