A political aide for Montreal mayor Denis Coderre was allegedly caught on video smoking crystal meth, TVA reported Thursday.
In the video, someone identified as Coderre aide Jean-François Thibault is seen holding a flame to a crystal meth pipe; the French network says he admitted to being the man in the video.
TVA reported it was apparently not the first time the 62-year-old has experimented with the illegal substance.
The City of Montreal told Global News it was made aware of the situation early Thursday afternoon.
“This type of behaviour is unacceptable to the mayor of Montreal,” the city wrote in a statement.
“This employee no longer works for the mayor.”
It continues: “We will do everything we can to make sure this individual receives all the help and support necessary.”
Global News has reached out to Thibault for comment.
According to LinkedIn, he started working at the mayor’s cabinet in January 2014.
Thibault previously worked as Sud-Ouest director for the Coalition Avenir Quebec (CAQ) from 2011 to 2013.
Crystal meth is a methamphetamine known for creating a false sense of happiness and well-being.
