Emergency crews are working to fix a ruptured sewer line in Kamloops.

Crews found the break in the 800-block of Lorne Street on Monday afternoon.

The line carries raw sewage to the city’s wastewater treatment plant near the Mission Flats landfill.

Public Works and Utilities Director Jen Fretz told CJFC that some sewage has spilled into the South Thompson River.

“Some of that material is getting into the river. At this point, it’s very little and we are plugging all the catch basins we can to reduce that as much as possible,” she said.

The City of Kamloops has asked residents east of the city’s downtown to reduce their water usage.
