While President-elect Donald Trump continued to fill key positions in his staff on Tuesday, he ate dinner with Mitt Romney in the evening in the restaurant at the Trump International Hotel.
The two were bitter rivals during the 2016 US presidential election, but Romney has emerged as a favourite to play a key role in Trump’s cabinet.
CNN’s Senior White House Correspondent Jim Acosta was in the restaurant and asked Trump whether Romney was going to be the next Secretary of State.
Trump responded by saying, “Well, we’re gonna see what happens.”

Romney told reporters afterwards that he had a “wonderful evening” with Trump.
“We had another discussion about affairs throughout the world and these discussions I’ve had with him have been enlightening, and interesting, and engaging,” Romney said.
The 2012 Republican presidential nominee also praised his one-time bitter rival for doing something he couldn’t: “he won the general election.”
