Brandon-born volleyball player Dustin Schneider has announced his retirement following a decade-long career.

Schneider has spent the last nine years on Canada’s men’s volleyball team. The 31-year-old setter won bronze at the 2015 Pan Am Games in Toronto. He’s also a two-time NORCECA Volleyball Confederation medalist.
“I would like to think my biggest accomplishment, as a part of the team, was being part of the changing of a generation for the program,” Schneider said in a statment.
Schneider helped the Winnipeg Wesmen capture a national university title in 2007. He was named a tournament all-star and MVP for his efforts. Schneider also received national and conference all-star awards in 2008.
“I would like to thank the coaching staff who had to take a leap of faith on me,” Schneider said. “I’m sure they took their fair share of criticism for giving me the chance to play.”
Following university, Schneider played professionally for teams in Austria, Portugal, France, Israel and Poland. He’s currently an assistant coach for a club and high school volleyball team in Winnipeg.
