Fans from across Canada celebrating Grey Cup in Toronto

CFL fans from Alberta to Ontario gathered at Ontario Place for what was expected to be one of the city’s biggest tailgate events of the season.

“You get to walk around, toss footballs, see great bands and have parties, and you do that with fans from every single team across this country,” said Sara Moore, Chief Operating Officer of the 2016 Grey Cup Festival who was speaking of the many events across the city that are hosting celebrations.

Despite the competition, many fans still felt a sense of unity with others, even if they were wearing the wrong jersey.

“The CFL is one big family. No matter the colours,” said Clint Ford, an Ottawa fan who was clad in black and red.

The Ottawa Redblacks will be facing off against the Calgary Stampeders who are coming off one of their best seasons ever.

“We’re going to light it up red and black and you’re going to hear us loud and proud in that stadium,” said Ford.

Festival organizers said ticket sales remained strong all week.

“We have a couple single seats left, and accessible seating but that’s it,” said Moore.

Several Toronto Argonauts fans made their to Ontario Place to cheer on Canadian football.

“It’s the Grey Cup, we don’t care who’s in it. It’s Canada’s national game,” said Rob Millard.

The Stampeders are the favourites to win tonight’s match-up.
