The Winnipeg Jets will be without one of their top defenceman when they conclude their five game road trip on Friday against the Nashville Predators.

Toby Enstrom left the team to go back home to Sweden to deal with family matters according to the head coach.

“Toby had to get home to Sweden for a family situation that’s come up briefly, with the full and complete support of the Winnipeg Jets organization,” Paul Maurice told Jets-TV after practice on Thursday in Nashville. “And we’re hopeful that he comes back and it’s a positive result and we’ll get him back real soon, but I don’t know when he’s going to be able to return.”

Maurice didn’t give any more details on what Enstrom is dealing with.

Enstrom, 32, has one goal and six assists in 22 games this season.

The Jets are currently carrying seven defenceman on their 23 man roster, so after being a healthy scratch in last night’s loss, it’s likely that Paul Postma will get back in the lineup on Friday.

“Family comes first,” said Postma. “He’s got to go deal with that and whenever he comes back it’s going to be good for us. But in the meantime when anyone gets out of the lineup everyone else kinda steps up and obviously tries to play their best. But hopefully we can turn this thing around and finish off this road trip in the right way.”

The Jets will probably also call up a defenceman from the Manitoba Moose with Julian Melchiori the most likely player to get recalled after he appeared in four games earlier this season.
