Calgary police announced Thursday the death of a man found in a Bankview residence on Tuesday has been deemed a homicide. Investigators are searching for another man they say may have information related to the death.
Police identified the victim as Calgarian Richard Pember, 58.
Homicide detectives were called to an apartment building in the 1800 block of 17 Street S.W. on Tuesday where they found the deceased man inside and an injured man outside. Police believe an altercation occurred inside the residence.
The Calgary Fire Department told Global News a man rang the doorbell at Fire Station No. 2 at around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday to tell them he thought his roommate was dead.
They said when the man was asked for his address, he said he couldn’t remember. Crews then drove him to a transitional housing complex in Bankview where they found the deceased.
Police said Thursday detectives have since identified Zachery Frederick Rider, 36, of no fixed address, as someone believed to have information on what happened in the home.
“Multiple attempts to locate this person have failed and investigators are turning to the public for assistance in locating him,” police said in a statement.
Rider is described as 5’9” tall and 180 pounds.
Anyone with information about Rider is asked to call the Calgary Police Service at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
