Opening statements have been delayed in the trial for three people with ties to a fundamentalist polygamous sect.
James Oler, Brandon Blackmore and Emily Crossfield (now Gail Blackmore) are suspected of taking a person under the age of 16 into the United States for sexual purposes in 2004. Their trial was set to begin today in Cranbrook but as the three accused are representing themselves, it has been delayed while some legal matters are worked out.
The expected 14-day trial will take place not far from the small community of Bountiful, where it is alleged some residents practice plural marriage.
None of the charges have been proven in court.
