The trial for the man charged in the 2014 hit-and-run death of Paul Bally, a beloved teacher and father of two in the Comox Valley, started Monday.

Timothy David Prad was charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing bodily harm and dangerous driving causing death. Prad did not come forward; instead the 55-year-old was arrested after RCMP officers acted on a tip from the public that led them to a property in the Comox Valley.

The tip came in after Bally’s wife, Evelyn, put forth an emotional plea for the driver responsible for striking and killing her husband to come forward and bear the consequences. Due to the tip, police found Prad and a 2003 Ford F350, which was believed to be involved in the incident.

He leaves behind his wife, two young children, and a number of former and current students. Friends of the Ballys set up a funding page for the family and many left condolences for a teacher they loved and respected.
