The consumer price index rose 0.8 per cent in Saskatchewan during October compared to a year ago Statistics Canada reported Friday.
That follows a gain of 1.1 per cent in September.

According to Statistics Canada, the deceleration was led by the passenger vehicle index, which increased 4.1 per cent year-over-year in October after rising 6.4 per cent the previous month.

Gas prices were also down 6.6 per cent from October 2015.
Excluding gas, the consumer price index in Saskatchewan rose 1.1 per cent compared to a year ago.
Food prices were also down 2.0 per cent on a year-over-year basis, led by decreases in the cost of fresh vegetables (5.5 per cent), fresh fruit (5.0 per cent) and dairy products (4.7 per cent).

Nationally, the inflation rate was 1.5 per cent in October, with increases in six of the eight major components.
