Hundreds in Choiceland, Sask. remember Nia Eastman

Through their darkest hours, comes a celebration of life in the community of Choiceland, Sask., as hundreds of people remembered Nia Eastman on Thursday.

People who knew Nia said the Grade 1 student was the sweetest little girl who enjoyed playing in puddles and wearing mismatched socks.

Nia, 7, was the subject of an Amber Alert in Saskatchewan on Nov. 10 after she was not returned to her mother the previous evening.

Her body was discovered in a home in the tight-knit community of no more than 400 people hours after the body of her father, Adam Jay Eastman, was found on a rural property in what police said was a murder-suicide.

RCMP continue to investigate the case and say there is still no evidence to suggest anyone else was involved.

People in the community located approximately 240 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon said they will continue to support her mother, Crystal, through this difficult time.

A GoFundMe page set up to support the family has raised over $35,000 to date. The family has said any money not used to cover funeral expenses will be used to extend Nia’s legacy.
