Nia’s body was discovered in a Choiceland home on Thursday, hours after the body of Adam Eastman was found on a rural property near Smeaton.

Nipawin RCMP had issued the Amber Alert after Nia was not returned home to her mother on Wednesday evening.

Nia’s death has sparked an outpouring of support in the community approximately 240 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon.

Over $27,000 has been raised to date on a Gofundme page set up for Nia’s mother Crystal after the tragic event.

The case has also raised questions as to why the Amber Alert was not broadcast on Saskatchewan’s emergency alert system.

Government officials said while they are capable of issuing missing person information, the administration of the Amber Alert program falls under the jurisdiction of the RCMP.

Late Tuesday afternoon, Saskatchewan RCMP released a statement saying they have been in conversation with the provincial government and are continuing to explore the implementation of Amber Alert notifications via SaskAlert.

“The RCMP is committed to working with our various partners to ensure public safety and security. Amber Alerts are a key part of that and we are open to all opportunities that might enhance our ability to notify the public in the case of an Amber Alert,” said the statement.
