UPDATE: A 27-year-old Vancouver man has been charged in relation to Monday’s shooting in the Downtown Eastside. Two people were originally taken into custody hours after the shooting, and one has since been released without charges. The second subject, Andy-Oscar Owusu, has now been charged with discharge a firearm with intent to wound, aggravated assault and possession of a loaded firearm.
Police tape went up in downtown Vancouver Monday morning following an early morning shooting. Two people have been brought in for questioning in connection with the shooting.
Vancouver Police say a 29-year-old woman was shot just before 5 a.m. at Abbott and West Pender Street. She was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The motive for the shooting remains unknown, but police say it did follow some kind of altercation.
The woman was a passenger in a Vancouver taxi at the time. The taxi’s back window was blown out during the shooting and it was towed away from the scene.
The driver of the taxi was not hurt.
Vancouver Police closed the surrounding streets to traffic and pedestrians were asked to avoid the area. All the streets are now open.
